Despite a great start by Andy Pettitte on Mariano Rivera Day in the Bronx, the Yankees came up short. Their playoff hopes are on life-support and are going to need a minor miracle to stay involved in the race. The Rays finish their series with the Orioles today, so a loss by Tampa would be a nice start to the week. Here are how the teams in contention fared yesterday:

Rays: 3-1 win vs Orioles. 6 Ray pitchers hold the O’s to only 3 hits.

Indians: 9-2 win vs Astros. Indians finish off four-game sweep of Astros.

Rangers: 4-0 loss in 10 innings vs Royals. Rangers waste a fantastic start by Alexi Ogando.

Royals: 4-0 win in 10 innings vs Rangers. Jason Maxwell’s grand slam in the 10th leads Royals to huge victory.

Yankees: 2-1 loss vs Giants. Andy Pettitte gets the loss in his final start at Yankee Stadium on Mariano Rivera Day.

Orioles: 3-1 loss vs Rays. Orioles continue their slide in Tampa.
