The Yankees were able to take the final game against the Red Sox to avoid a 4-game sweep and finished the home-stand 6-4. The Rays were also able to avoid a sweep in Seattle, so the Yankees remain 2.5 games back. The Wild Card race in general is very tight with 5 teams vying for one playoff spot and all 5 teams are within 3.5 games of each other.

Tonight, the Yanks start a huge 4 game series against the Orioles, who are ahead of them in the wild card standings. If the Yankees are going to take care of business, it starts tonight with CC on the mound. Here are how the teams in contention fared yesterday:

Rangers: 4-3 win vs Angels. Rangers scratch together comeback.

Rays: 4-1 win vs Mariners. Rays score 3 in the 8th to comeback and avoid sweep.

Orioles: 4-2 vs White Sox. Bud Norris struggles for O’s.

Indians: 2-1 loss vs Mets. Tribe only muster 5 hits vs Dice-K and company.

Yankees: 4-3 win vs Red Sox. Yankees win a crazy one on a wild pitch; avoid 4 game sweep.

Royals: 5-2 win vs Tigers. Bruce Chen baffles Tigers.
