The Yankees are placing C.C. Sabathia on the 15-day disabled list with a grade 1 strain of the adductor muscle near his left leg.
Sabathia injured his groin in the fourth inning against the Mets on Sunday night and he continued to feel discomfort during a bullpen yesterday at Yankee Stadium.
“Dr. Ahmad said if we give him the 10-15 days, that’s going to heal and it should not be an issue,” Joe Girardi said.
They are expecting Sabathia to miss two starts and believe he will be ready to return after the All-Star break. Freddy Garcia will take Sabathia’s spot in the rotation.
The Yankees are leaning toward calling up right-hander Adam Warren to take Sabathia’s place on the roster.
