Yankees Broomsticks and Andrew vs. Seattle — The Bronx Pinstripes Show #18

The Yankees are rolling! 6 in a row after laying an egg in Oakland last weekend. It was a very busy week with the sweeps of Seattle and Anaheim, Cano blogs breaking our website and causing a war between New York and Seattle fans, #BronxFaithful going strong, and new BP family members! We also answered a few mailbag questions.

Its just like the 2015 Yankees to lose 3 of 4 to the worst team in baseball then crush King Felix, the best pitcher in the game. Teixeira owns Felix, and put the game last Monday out of reach with a grand slam. Big Mike also stepped up in his return to Seattle.

Tuesday was one of the best games of the year, an extra innings 5-3 victory. Tons of things happened in this game: Stephen Drew and Garrett Jones came up with big hits, Lloyd Mclendon had an epic ejection, and Carpenter was so bad he got DFA’d the next day.

Tanaka then helped complete the sweep with a dominant return from the DL. It was the best we’ve seen him since last season; he was throwing in the mid 90s, his off speed stuff was dancing, and he was efficient.

Scott and I also discussed the weekend games vs the Angels; how Adam Warren has been one of their best starters, why Esmil Rogers is still on the team, and how the Yankees can fix an issue they have in the bullpen.

David Cunningham @d_Cunningham12: What kind of moves (if any) should the yankees make before the trade deadline?

This is something we’re going to be talking about for the next 2 months leading up to July 31. By now we all know that the Yankees are interested in help at second base. While they’re searching for help, I’m not sure it will be a big splash like Zobrist. It is much more likely that they get help from their depth in the minors. They also desperately need a right-hander out of the pen. Right now Betances is the only reliable one, and the rest are left handed. They just DFA’d Carpenter and I have a feeling Esmil Rogers is not too far behind. I have not seen any names rumored yet, usually relievers will be traded closer to the deadline.

Alex Fulton: Hey guys love the podcast. Wanted to know your thoughts on CC for a minute. He’s proven to be inconsistent and unable to pitch in the middle and late innings. While I’m glad we have designated David Carpenter for assignment, I feel like CC doesn’t deserve a spot in the rotation. So if you can play Joe Girardi for a minute is there anyone else you would like to give a chance in the rotation besides CC?

Hey guys, do you think we will see an AL all star offensive line up with no Yankees this year? I know Ellsbury might be in the running but what do you think?

CC aint going anywhere. He is making $23 mil and he’s a #4 starter at best. No team is going to trade for him and he is not going to the pen because he has never pitched there, and frankly does not have the stuff for short relief. So we are stuck with CC, but I don’t think that is the worst thing. CC has been up-and-down all year but seems to be more consistent as of late. The reality is he’s a 5-6 inning pitcher at this point, so Girardi should use him as that. Let’s hope CC continues to improve this year.

And you’re right Alex, we are probably not going to see any Yanks in the AL All Star starting lineup. Right now Royals are dominating voting (I think the WS appearance might have something to do with that). I think if Ells did stay healthy he would have had a shot. But we should definitely see Teixeira on the team, and I would LOVE to see ARod make it as well but that probably is not going to happen.
