Yankees Player of the Week: June 10-June 16

Cano hit a respectable .333 for the week, along with a HR, 2 RBI, and .448 OBP.

The 10th week of the season proved to be a tough week for the Yankees. They were swept by the Athletics in Oakland, and lost the first 2 games of the 3 game series against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim to finish the week with a dismal 1-5 record. For the 10th week of the season, the Yankees player of the week is Robinson Cano. The 2013 home run derby AL captain had been struggling at the plate leading into this week. In the 6 west coast games player this past week, Cano hit a respectable .333, with 5 extra base hits, including 1 home run. Cano also walked 5 times, goo enough for a solid .448 OBP. He scored 5 runs and along with Brett Gardner, were the only offensive threats for the Bronx Bombers this past week.

Robinson’s best game of the week came in the Yankees disappointing 3-2, 18-inning loss vs. Athletics on Thursday, June 13. Cano finished the day 3-for-6, with a HR, 2 RBI’s, and 2 walks (both intentional). Cano’s 2-run homer in the 1st inning was his 16th of the season, good for 5th in the American League.

The Yankees look to rebound this week as the team comes back east to play a 2-game series against their former Brooklyn rival, the Los Angeles Dodgers, before ending the week with a 4-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays. This is a big week for the Yanks to turn the ship that is well off course.
