Yankees Players of the Week: May 20-May 27

David Adams hit .300 for the week, while hitting his 1st & 2nd home runs of his brief MLB career.

Since yesterday was Memorial Day, and I was unable to get in front of a computer, today’s Yankees Player of the Week will be based off of performance from May 20 through May 27. The Yankees player of the week for the 8th week of the season is… David Adams.ย The Yankees rookie, who made his Major League debut on May 15th, had his best week of his brief Major League Baseball career. In the 8 day span, Adams hit a solid .300, while hitting his first AND second career MLB bombs. He drove in 4 runs, with an OPS of .833. While normally the defensive stats for a player are overlooked, since David Adams got the call from AAA, he has been perfect at 3rd base in all 33 of his defensive chances with 6 put-outs, and 27 assists.

For a team that has been hammered with injuries, the Yankees, along with their fans, are extremely excited to see the youth from the farm make a huge impact. With the hot corner normally filled with aging veterans, I believe that Adams will get his fair share of opportunities at 3rd base even when the ‘regulars’ are back from the DL. I like this kid a lot, and see a bright future for him. If this past week is an indication of his potential, we should all be very happy.

  2. Preston Claiborne (1.69 ERA; 5.1 IP; 5 Ks; 0.38 WHIP)
  3. Jayson Nix (.273 BA; 6 H; 1 3B; 3 RBI)
  4. Brett Gardner (.250 BA; 5 XBH; 2 2Bs; 1 3B; 2 HRs; 4 RBI)
  5. Mariano Rivera (2 saves; 2 IP; 0.00 ERA; 0.00 WHIP; 3 Ks)
