Alex Rodriguez would likely be granted permission by the Yankees to skip the team’s final series of the year in order to prepare for his arbitration hearing on September 30, according to the New York Daily News. This means tonight could be his last game of the season, maybe even his career. As of now, he is currently scheduled to travel to Houston.
Rodriguez, 38, is appealing a 211-game suspension handed down by MLB for his involvement in the now defunct “anti-aging” clinic, Biogenesis. Rodriguez and his expensive legal team will try to discredit the clinic’s founder, Anthony Bosch, in an attempt to get the suspension reduced.
Rodriguez has four more years and about $86 million remaining on his contract. Even though the suspension may get reduced, there’s a small chance he returns before the 2015 season – when he’ll be close to 40-years-old with two bad hips. Therefore, his future in baseball is uncertain which quite possibly makes tonight the last we’ll see of Alex Rodriguez. On the season, he’s hitting .244/.348/.423 with seven homers and 19 RBI in 44 games.
