Source: Cano, Boras split

In an interesting move, All-Star slugger Robinson Cano has decided to sever ties with agent Scott Boras, and will be the first client for Jay-Z’s Roc Nation Sports, which has a partnership with Creative Artists Agency (CAA) – according to ESPN’s Buster Olney.

Earlier in the offseason, the Yankees had reportedly offered Cano and agent Scott Boras a contract extension, which was obviously not accepted – Boras clients almost always play out their contracts to test the open market.

Olney reports that Cano has quietly been meeting with other agents in the past few weeks, hoping to find new representation. Since Jay-Z is widely known as a huge Yankee fan, the speculation here is that Cano and the Yankees will work out a contract extension. Cano has released the following statement:

At this point in my career, I am ready to take a more active role in my endeavors on and off the field. I am confident that the pairing of Roc Nation Sports and CAA Sports will be essential in helping me accomplish my short- and long-term goals. I am making this important decision now so I can keep my focus on helping the Yankees succeed in 2013, while minimizing any distractions for me and my teammates.
