Yanks take rubber, hit the road

First home series. First home series win. The Bronx Bombers were back at it and provided plenty of run support in an 8-5 victory against the Houston Astros. The Yanks take the series and take their show on the road, motoring onto the Motor City.

Once again as the late great Yogi Berra once said, β€œYou can observe a lot by watching.” Here’s what I observed in the Yankees victory.

Raining home runs:

The rain held off and the Yankees bats opened the sky. Brian McCann, Starlin Castro and Mark Teixeira all went yard, countering an early onslaught by the Astros. Those three and Didi Gregorius, have been the most productive Yankee bats thus far. The McCann and Castro home runs were absolute rockets and it was encouraging too see Tex beat the shift on a couple of occasions.

Welcome to 2016:

Alex Rodriguez and Jacoby Ellsbury each chimed in with a pair of hits and an RBI apiece.

Windmills and whiffs:

Although it was a rocky start for Nathan Eovaldi, like in 2015, he managed to ring up seven K’s and got some serious run support. The Yankees staff combined for 14 K’s on the game.

Dynamic duo dominates:

No triplets yet but the Yankees formula out of the back end of the bullpen was on point. Dellin Betances shook off his Opening Day outing, fanning a pair in a flawless frame. Then Andrew Miller struck out the side in the ninth, collecting his first save and hammering down a Yankee victory.
