Yankees reliever David Robertson is scheduled to rejoin the club in Atlanta today, although he will not be activated until Friday’s game against the Washington Nationals. Robertson has been on the disabled list since the middle of May with a left oblique strain.
“He’s fine,” Joe Girardi said. “We just want to make sure he feels OK, and if he is, we’ll activate him on Friday.”
Robertson had taken over for Mariano Rivera as the team’s closer, but since the injury Rafael Soriano (10 saves in 11 opportunities) has had the job and done nicely. Rafael Soriano will continue to be the Yankees closer and David Robertson will return to the role of setup man.
Before the injury, Robertson had a 2.51 ERA, a 15.1 K/9, and 3.8 BB/9 in 14.1 innings.
Robertson is glad to be back with the Bombers:
I’m finally back!!! Never knew I could miss a group of guys so much. Reunited and it feels so goooood!
