New injury for Phelps

When David Phelps went down in early July with a forearm strain, many thought he’d be back in the rotation this season. Now, his return at all is in doubt after the 26-year-old suffered a new injury – this time an elbow strain.

Phelps will be shutdown completely for two weeks in an attempt to rest his ailing right arm. Even if things go well and he resumes throwing, Phelps would have to build his arm strength back up again which takes time, something the Yankees are running out of.

Phelps was having himself an up and down season before he got hurt. He’s been a valuable asset to the team, able to spot start and even come out of the bullpen as the long-man. However, we just might have to wait until 2014 to see him again.
