Pettitte’s Hand Bruised After Barehand Play, X-Rays Negative

Yankee fans can breathe a sigh of relief – X-rays came back negative (bruised left hand) for Yankees southpaw, Andy Pettitte, after he snared a one-hopper back to the mound with his bare hand in the top of the sixth inning on Sunday against the Mets. He remained in the game and retired the next two batters, though he was in noticeable pain. Clay Rapada took over the pitching for the seventh inning with the Bombers trailing, 3-0.

The 39-year-old expects to make his next start.

With Thursday being a scheduled day off, Pettitte will get a little more rest than usual.
