Yankees manager, Joe Girardi, announced today that C.C. Sabathia will go on the 15-day disabled list. The left-hander has felt some minor stiffness in his elbow that last couple of starts.
Girardi does not see the injury as a major concern. “As far as the concern, it’s pretty low level,” he told Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News.
Two days after Sabathia’s August 3 start at home, he felt some elbow soreness and went for an MRI, which came back clean. No more tests are scheduled.
Girardi said the Yankees considered having Sabathia simply skip a start without going on the disabled list, but they ultimately decided to take this route.
The move is retroactive to August 8 and Sabathia can come off the disabled list August 23rd.
