Yankees Considering Demoting Joba?

Joba Chamberlain has struggled terribly since returning from Tommy John surgery and a broken ankle

Don’t laugh, folks, it could happen. And it could happen as soon as Friday, when C.C. Sabathia returns from the disabled list and the Yankees are required to make a roster move, according to Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News.

Chamberlain, who made his return from Tommy John surgery and a broken ankle less than a month ago, has struggled mightily in his seven appearances. Since his return, opposing hitters are hitting a ridiculous .455 against him, and his ERA has skyrocketed to 9.45. He has given up an earned run in five of his seven appearances this year after being rushed back to the big leagues following a deadline day deal of Chad Qualls.

As a reliever who has minor league options remaining, the Yankees could ship Chamberlain to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, let him work through his problems, and bring him back when the minor league season ends (and major league rosters expand) in September. David Phelps and Cody Eppley could also be candidates for demotion, though neither seems as likely as Joba right now.
