A Bump In The Road — The Bronx Pinstripes Show #15

The Yankees lost 5 of 7 this week, Chase Whitley got hurt, Mark Teixeira left a game with a bruised toe, Pineda got hit hard, OUR PETS HEADS ARE FALLING OFF!!! For the first time since early April, the Yankees have hit a bump in the road.Β Rich Kaufman (@RAKcity27) joined me this week to discuss the recent Yankees struggles.

After beating the Rays 11-5 last Monday, the Yankees went into a bit of a tail-spin. The offense disappeared in Tampa and Girardi made some questionable moves — like bringing Eovaldi back for the 8th inning Tuesday, and then pitching Andrew Miller in the 8th inning of a game they were losing on Wednesday.

The rotation also took a hit when Chase Witley went down with an elbow sprain on Thursday. He will likely need surgery, and this hurts both the rotation and bullpen. The Yankees were hopeful that when Capuano returned, Warren would return to the pen. But now Warren is forced to stay in the rotation until Tanaka comes back.

Nothing really improved when they went to KC, where they dropped 2 of 3. Pineda, coming off his 16 K performance last week, got shelled. He was not the stopper the team needed. Surprisingly though, CC stepped up over the weekend and ended their longest losing streak since early April. Maybe CC is turning it around and learning how to pitch with lesser stuff (he was responsible for the only 2 wins this week).

Rich and I also took some Twitter questions; one about the return and health of Tanaka, and the other about the questionable moves Joe Girardi has made recently.

In other news, Bryan Hoch tweeted that the mustaches are starting to be shaved. Also Teixeira left Sunday’s game with a toe injury but it does not seem to be too serious. Tanaka should also make a rehab start this coming Thursday.

The world is crumbling, for now… But the team (and we) have a much needed off day today. Hopefully they can turn things around in Washington.
