A Royal Sweep and West Coast Struggles – The Bronx Pinstripes Show #17

Ladies and gentleman, your 2015 New York Yankees! A team that can look like the ’98 Yanks one minute and then the 2003 Detroit Tigers the next (the ’03 Tigers lost 119 games….woof). Anyways, we just can’t seem to figure this team out.

Scott and I break down what went right for the Yanks vs KC, including ARod’s improvements against off speed pitches, Pineda’s bounce-back start, and McCann and Beltran’s hot streaks.

The Yankees then headed west and lost 3 of 4 to Oakland (the worst team in baseball). The team has a serious issue with CC Sabathia, who really struggles the third time through the order. Scott and I try and come up with solutions to the CC issue. We also discuss what the team should do with Warren and Capuano when Tanaka returns this coming Wednesday.

The Bronx Pinstripes mailbag is now open. Submit questions, comments, stories, rants, etc. and we’ll discuss on the podcast. We had a few submissions this week:

Ryan ORourke @ror925 – Seeing as the Yankees don’t seem to trust any of their infield prospects, and “Drew gonna Drew”, I think the 2B problem will be solved via trade. So my question to you is who should the Yankees target on the Trade market in terms of second basemen. I would personally love a Zobrist trade.

Warren – Can we trade for Kazmir and Zobrist to save our pitching staff and our infield?

Great questions from Ryan and Warren. I especially like “Drew gonna Drew.” Is that the new “Manny being Manny”? Either way, I’m going to start using it… ย Both Scott and I love Zobrist, and he is definitely going to be traded by the deadline, but we don’t see the Yanks trading a prospect for a 2 month rental at 2B. Kazmir, on the other hand, would be an upgrade to the middle of the rotation. He’s a free agent at the end of the year and there is no way Oakland will pony-up for him so he will be traded as well. If the Yankees can get him without trading a top prospect like Judge, Refsnyder, or Severino, then I would definitely like to see him in the Bronx.

John – What’s up guys. I’m seriously questioning Girardi’s moves as of late. Last night Shreve was on FIRE, and he takes him out. Maybe he wants to save him for the series in Seattle? But I think if a guy is hot like that, you leave him in. I think it’s to the point where Girardi is making moves just to make moves. And don’t get me started on Carpenter.

We all question Girardi’s moves from time to time. Yes, he plays the match-ups, but sometimes to a fault. Right now Carpenter and Rogers are not getting it done in the pen yet Girardi is still using those guys. If someone can tell me why, I’d love to know… ย John is specifically referring to Saturday night in Oakland when Shreve pitched an inning and a third and struck out all 4 guys. But Shreve is a short reliever, so pushing him past an inning and a third is too much. I agreed with the decision to go to Wilson Saturday night; the pen won them the game (Shreve, Wilson, Betances, and Miller combined 4.1 IP and no runs).

Thanks to everyone who submitted to the mailbag. We want to make this a big part of the show going forward.
