Is CC Sabathia Back? – The Bronx Pinstripes Show #60

BP Show 60 topics: we give some Bronx Pinstripes website, forum, and spring training updates, talk about CC’s Players’ Tribune article in which he opens up about his struggles with alcohol, pose the questions if CC is back and if he can repeat his second half 2015 numbers, Chapman’s 30 game suspension and the affect it will have on the team, the battle for the 25th roster spot, if Refsnyder can win the utility infielder job, Austin Romine’s chances of making the team, comments Tanaka made about his elbow, the new “Chase Utley rule”, and preview the Diamondbacks and Rockies. We received a ton of mailbags about Jorge Mateo, so we decided to do an all-Mateo episode which will air tomorrow at 11am. On today’s episode we take a mailbag about the new Yankees ticket policy. Get involved with the show by submitting a mailbag question, story, or rant here. On Monday CC wrote a Players’ Tribune article called ‘My Toughest Out.’ It was about his battles with alcohol and how difficult of a time he was having these past few years. If you have not read it, I highly recommend checking it out because CC really opens up. He takes us all the way back to his Cleveland days when he felt like a young outsider and would rely on alcohol to “fit in.” As he progressed in his career he started to realize that he was relying on alcohol for a lot of things and his drinking was starting to get out of hand. He would tell people he had a problem, but it wasn’t until October of last year that he finally believed it was true.

Now that CC has gone to rehab and seems to be working through his problem, we pose the question: is CC back? He’ll never be 2009 CC again, but can he be second half 2015 CC who posted a 3.63 ERA over 12 starts? If CC can remain healthy – which is a BIG if – he could be a real asset to the Yankees in what is likely to be his final season in pinstripes.

Thanks to Rudy G for submitting a mailbag comment! It was about the new Yankees ticket policy and how it will affect fans going to the game. We also talk about the recent meeting between the Yanks and StubHub and how they might be nearing a resolution.
