It’s Getting Late Early for the Yankees – The Bronx Pinstripes Show #72

We are now into May and the Yankees are in last place with the least productive offense in MLB. In the words of the great Yogi, it’s getting late early.

BP Show 72 topics: (note, we recorded before the Sunday night game vs Boston) Yankees lack of offense, starters inconsistency, Chase Headley needs to be benched, ARod turning his season around, Eovaldi’s no-hit stuff vs Texas, Severino’s lack of off-speed pitches, CC’s mental mistakes, and second guessing Girardi’s use of Betances on Friday in Boston. We also discuss upcoming games vs Baltimore, James Kaprielian’s elbow, and Dee Gordon‘s PED suspension. Mailbag questions about Mateo, the Yankees facial hair rule, a trade involving their minor league depth, who needs to be fired, and Josh Donaldson.

Chase Headley – deservedly – has received a ton of criticism this season. Heck, I’ve been leading the #ChaseHeadleySucks charge. But he is by no means the only reason the team is playing this poorly. Overall their entire offense is cold. They are last in runs scored, which is pretty amazing considering they were first overall after one week this season. Every time they get runners on base they are immediately negated with a double play. Their starters aren’t going past the 5th inning and their bullpen has had some hiccups. When you add all that together, it equals a last place team.

We’re now into May and the Yankees are digging themselves a huge hole that is becoming harder to get out of with each loss. The turnaround has to start now!
