Turning the Page to Baseball Season – The Bronx Pinstripes Show #56

The Super Bowl is over which means we are officially turning the page to baseball season. BP Show 56 topics: our favorite and least favorite moments of SB50, Cashman’s tenure as Yankees GM, what Greg Bird’s injury means for his MLB service time, Starlin Castro vs. Howie Kendrick, if the Yankees should sign Cliff Lee, the Gurriel brothers defecting from Cuba, and a preview of the KC Royals and Detroit Tigers. The Bronx Pinstripes team will be at Yankees spring training March 10-13 to attend games and get audio/video. We would love to meet up with fans who are down there. If you will be at ST that weekend, let us know by submitting a mailbag or hit us up on Twitter and Facebook.

This past week I wrote a blog about an interview Brian Cashman did with MLB.com in which he talked about the Mike Lowell trade from 1999 being his biggest regret as Yankees GM. We got some great suggestions for other regretful Cashman moves from fans, including: Kei Igawa, Javier Vasquez #2, Carl Pavano, getting Randy Johnson a year too late, resigning ARod in ’07, and more.

Howie Kendrick recently signed a very reasonable contract with the Dodgers. We discuss if the Yankees would have been better off targeting him in free agency instead of Starlin Castro on the trade market by weighing the pros and cons of each scenario.

Throughout spring training we will be previewing the AL and NL teams on the Yankees schedule. On this week’s episode we discuss the Royals and Tigers, their offseason moves, and how they project this season. Next week we will take a look at the Indians and Twins.
