Trade Deadline Special – The Bronx Pinstripes Show #26

The MLB Trade Deadline has come and gone, and the Yankees added…….Dustin Ackley. The Yankees were tied to a number of big names over the week: Price, Hamels, Kimbrel, and the list goes on. But Ackley was the one guy they added. Scott and I were joined by Rich Kaufman to discuss the trade deadline moves and rumors, why we think the Yankees didn’t add any more pieces, and what they should have done.

We kicked the episode off recapping all the moves that have gone down, and the impact they have on the Yankees. A lot of teams the Yankees will be competing with down the stretch have gotten MUCH better — Kansas City, Toronto, and Houston all added pieces that should help them in the playoffs.

While we were recording, Cespedes was traded to the Mets but there was still crickets with the Yankees. Scott, Rich, and I discussed why that may be. For the first time in a while the Yankees were not desperate at the deadline and were steadfast on holding onto their top prospects, and we can’t blame them for that. Mortgaging the future for short term benefit is how the Yankees got themselves into trouble in recent years, so the fact Cashman is doing things differently this time around is definitely a good thing. On the other hand, the Yankees are in a great position in the AL but did not add a piece to help them down the stretch. We did not expect the team to be this good, and not adding to the team now is doing it a disservice.

We end the episode talking about some of the minor league guys we HOPE to see called up soon. Basically we want to see Severino in the rotation and Refsnyder back at second base.
