After winning big last night, the Yankees dropped the second game of their series with the Angels by a score of 7-1.

The Yankees left 11 runners on base tonight, and were 0-for-11 with runners in scoring position. Their only run was scored on a Derek Jeter solo home run to lead off the game. It came on Angels starter Jason Dickson’s first pitch of his MLB career.

Dickson ended up going six-and-one-thirds innings, allowing 10 hits and just that one run. He dodged troubled all night long. “It drives you nuts,” said Manager Joe Torre, whose team had runners on in every inning. “To sit and watch it, you’re helpless.” (Via NY Times)

Dickson left the game after putting runners on second and third with one out in the seventh. Wade Boggs popped out to center, and Darryl Strawberry grounded out to first. Threat over.

Jimmy Key pitched well enough to win, going seven and allowing two runs on five hits. However, the bullpen let him down. Jeff Nelson and Dale Polley each allowed two runs, with Bob Wickman allowing one.

The Yankees and Angels conclude their series tomorrow. Kenny Rogers starts against Chuck Finley.
