Some good news out of Yankee camp today, as Derek Jeter is just about set to return to game action. After receiving “final clearance” on his ankle yesterday, it’s just a matter of time before the Captain will take his place back atop the lineup.
WFAN’s Sweeny Murti said that Jeter could play as early as tomorrow, although last week manager Joe Girardi was shooting for a March 10 return. Girardi will check with Jeter tomorrow morning and see if he will be okay with playing against the Braves in a 1:05 pm contest in Tampa. He will DH in the first game he appears in and will probably only take two at-bats.
Jeter is on track to be the Opening Day shortstop barring any setback.
Joe Girardi said Derek Jeter could play as early as tomorrow. Will check with Jeter in the a.m. Will DH in his first game, prob only 2 ABs.
