Spring Training Game 12: Yankees defeat Boston Red Sox

New York Yankees 5 — Boston Red Sox 3

In the spring training game for tonight, the New York Yankees paid a visit to the Boston Red Sox.

Adam Warren got the start in tonight’s game and faced immediate trouble. Mookie Betts beat out an infield single and Dustin Pedroia hit a single to put two on with no outs. A fly out put runners on the corners and Hanley Ramirez would bring in the first run on a ground out. In the third inning, Mookie Betts would get the best of Warren one more time, hitting a double to left field. Then with two outs, David Ortiz would hit a single to score Betts and the Red Sox had a two-run lead.

In three innings, Adam Warren allowed two runs on four hits while walking none and striking out two.

Rick Porcello started for the Red Sox and he kept the Yankees relatively silent through the first three innings. To reach his pitch count, Porcello started the fourth inning but a pair of singles by Garrett Jones and Brian McCann would be enough to remove him from the game. Dalier Hinojosa would come in for relief and got one out before Rob Refsnyder reached on an infield single to load the bases. Third baseman Jonathan Galvez would come through with two outs in the inning with a bases-clearing, three-run triple to right field, giving the Yankees the lead.

In the seventh inning, Jonathan Galvez would get his second hit of the game and with one out, Aaron Judge would hit a double to left field to put two runners in scoring position with just one out. Mason Williams would come up next and came up big with a ground-rule double to right field, scoring two runs and extending the Yankees lead to three.

Nick Goody and Jacob Lindgren would each strike out three Red Sox batters to finish the eighth and ninth inning, respectively en route to a Yankees win over the Red Sox.

That is good at any time of the year.
