Spring Training Game 14: Shutout on the road

New York Yankees 0 — Toronto Blue Jays 1

In the road half of todayโ€™s New York Yankees split squad, the Toronto Blue Jays hosted the Yankees.

After the Yankees were sent down in order, former Yankee Russell Martin started the bottom of the first inning with a double against Esmil Rogers. Devon Travis would go down swinging and Josh Donaldson would hit a single to left field. Brett Gardner hustled to the single and would throw home, easily getting Martin who tried to score from second base and kept the Blue Jays off the scoreboard.

In the fourth inning, the Yankees got a one-out single from Alex Rodriguez and a walk to Chris Young but they would be unable to score.

Throughout todayโ€™s visit to the Blue Jays, the division opponents would have at least one runner on each inning but they could not score. In the sixth inning, Caleb Gindl would come up with a runner in scoring position and he would come through with a single to center field and gave the Blue Jays a one-run lead.

In the ninth inning, third baseman Eric Jagielo started the Yankeesโ€™ last chance by taking one for the team, getting hit by a pitch. The Yankees would be unable to make anything of this with three consecutive outs and the road team would be shutout today.
