Spring Training Game 32: Split squad road Yankees lose

The road Yankees lose in the split squad day.

Bryan Mitchell got the start in the visit to the Detroit Tigers. Through the first three innings, Mitchell allowed three to reach but he kept the Tigers off the scoreboard. His second time through the order would not go as well. Miguel Cabrera would walk to start the fourth inning. After getting the first out, J.D. Martinez and Yoenis Cespedes hit a pair of singles to load the bases. Then with two outs, Nick Castellanos hit a two-run single to right field. A wild pitch would bring in the third run for the Tigers.

The Yankees would get one back in the fifth inning. Slade Heathcott started the inning with a single and moved up to second on a stolen base. He would advance on a fly out and scored on a sacrifice fly.

Bryan Mitchell would pitch a scoreless fifth inning to finish his day on a strong note. In five innings, Bryan Mitchell allowed three runs on five hits while walking two and striking out six.

In the seventh inning, John Ryan Murphy led off with a double. One out later, Slade Heathcott would hit a single to center field to reduce the deficit to one. The Yankees would get the tying run on base but a pickoff would end the game with a loss.
