Yankees in Panama: Marlins no-hitter

Yankees-logoMiami Marlins 5 — New York Yankees 0

The New York Yankees played their first of two games in Panama to honor the great Mariano Rivera, who retired last season. The Yankees lineup featured prominent bats for the 2014 Yankees, including Brett Gardner, Derek Jeter, Carlos Beltran and Alfonso Soriano. The thing they had in common, none of them were able to get a hit. Brett Gardner gets the only praise of these major league talents as he was able to work out one walk.

Brad Hand, Steve Cishek, A.J. Ramos and Arquimedes Caminero combined to throw a no-hitter for the Miami Marlins. Hand went five innings without allowing a baserunner and striking out six. Cishek went one inning but ended the perfect game with a walk. Ramos went two innings and walked one. Caminero ended the game with a strikeout of Adonis Garcia.

For the Yankees pitching, Adam Warren went 4.1 innings and allowed one run on two hits while striking out six. Matt Daley would continue to have a good Spring with 1.2 innings scoreless with one strikeout. On the other end, Robert Coello continues to make a bad Spring worse with three runs, two earned, scoring on one hit and two walks while striking out one and only getting one out.

Good thing this is just exhibition games.
