Yankees off-day news & notes

Although the Yankees are off today and are participating in a team-bonding activity, there’s still plenty of news coming out of camp.

According to Bryan Hoch, Alex Rodriguez said he won’t be playing in the team’s Grapefruit League opener tomorrow, but will likely get in a game on Thursday and Saturday.

Hoch also tweeted that Luis Severino, the scheduled starter for tomorrow,  is expected to throw two innings or 30 pitches – whichever comes first.

Meredith Marakovits reported that Brett Gardner will hit in the cage on Wednesday as expected as he tries to push past a bone bruise in his wrist, and that Nathan Eovaldi is scheduled to throw a bullpen on Thursday. Eovaldi was originally supposed to throw tomorrow, but his session was pushed back due to minor soreness in his groin.

There are reports that a suspension for Aroldis Chapman might come down today, but Joe Girardi said he hasn’t heard any news yet. Stay tuned on that.

The Yankees take on the Tigers tomorrow at 1:05 pm ET from George M. Steinbrenner Field.
