Yankees Spring Training Game 21: Kuroda loses in shutout

Hiroki Kuroda gave up four runs in today’s 7-0 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies.

 

The Yankees offense was held off the scoreboard today. Derek Jeter and Kevin Youkilis were able to get a double in the game. Brett Gardner got a hit as well. Minor league infielder Walter Ibarra was the only Yankee to get two hits in today’s game.

 

Hiroki Kuroda started today’s game and got through six while allowing four runs on six hits with a walk and two strikeouts. Dominic Brown made the big impact on Kuroda’s start with a three-run home run, his fourth home run of the Spring. An error made two of the runs Kuroda allowed unearned. Mariano Rivera had an inning of work today with one walk and one strikeout. David Aardsma had a clean inning of work and Shawn Kelley did not, as they both make a bid for a spot in the bullpen. Shawn Kelley gave up a two-run home run, a pair of doubles, and a triple for three runs in the 9th inning.
