Yankees Spring Training Game 24: Nova, Beltran strong in win

Yankees-logoNew York Yankees 7 — Atlanta Braves 0

The Yankees went on the road to visit the Atlanta Braves as the regular season comes closer. Brett Gardner got the game started nicely with a walk and also stole second base during Derek Jeter‘s at-bat. Jeter’s fly out to right field would move Gardner to third and Carlos Beltran would come through with a single to bring home Gardner.

Ivan Nova got the start today and didn’t give up his first hit until the third inning. He would give up a double in the sixth inning but that runner would be stranded as well. Nova dominated the Braves lineup that featured nearly all of the projected starting lineup on Opening Day.

In 6.1 innings, Ivan Nova allowed two hits while walking none and allowing no runs. He struck out six.

In the fourth inning, the Yankees did some two-out scoring. After Brian McCann and Alfonso Soriano got the first two outs, Brian Roberts kept the inning going with a single. Kelly Johnson drew a walk and outfielder Adonis Garcia would hit a line drive double to left field to score two runs in the inning.

In the seventh inning Carlos Beltran and Brian McCann brought in two more runs. The Braves bullpen would lose the strike zone in the ninth inning to make a bad situation worse with five walks, two with the bases loaded.

Cesar Cabral and Dellin Betances each got two outs in their scoreless appearances.
