It took a four-run 8th to secure the 9-7 win over the Minnesota Twins.
Robinson Cano took his hot WBC bat with him back to the Yankees as he brought in two runs, one on a double, in today’s game. Corban Joseph brought in a run on a triple. Juan Rivera and Ben Francisco each brought home one on singles. Chris Stewart and Ronnier Mustelier were the big hitters of the 8th inning with a pair of doubles to bring in three.
Ivan Nova started today’s game. In the 2nd inning, he gave up back-to-back home runs to Justin Morneau and Ryan Doumit to lose his 2-0 lead. After he was given a second lead, he would lose it once more in his 5.1 innings of work. He gave up five runs, one unearned, on seven hits with one walk and three strikeouts. Branden Pinder would give up an unearned run and Kelvin Perez gave up a run but finished the game and got a save.
