Yankees Spring Training Game 28: Francisco goes deep twice

New York Yankees 6 — Detroit Tigers 10

 

Tigers’ srong offense too much for the Yankees in today’s 10-6 loss.

 

Andy Pettitte started today’s game and pitched well for 6.1 innings. The potent Tigers offense got four runs off of Pettitte through eight hits, one walk, and five strikeouts. In the 5th inning, Pettitte gave up three runs on a home run, two doubles, a single and a sacrifice fly. Pettitte struck out the final batter he faced to start the 7th inning before letting the bullpen take over. Cody Eppley would take over and had a dreadful appearance in relief. Eppley faced five batters and gave up five hits, including a home run to Miguel Cabrera. Shawn Kelley followed and pitched 1.1 innings, giving up a home run in the 8th inning to former Yankee Kevin Russo. Juan Cedeno would be needed to ge the last out.

 

Ben Francisco continues to make a good run at an outfield spot on the Opening Day roster. In today’s game, Francisco went 2 for 3 with a pair of home runs. Kevin Youkilis had a two-run double in the 5th inning. Eduardo Nunez brought in one on his two-hit day. Juan Rivera got three hits today and Brett Gardner got one hit but left early with a stomach bug.
