Yankees Spring Training Game 30: Yankees comeback to tie it.

Houston Astros 4 — New York Yankees 4 [10 Innings]

The Yankees overcome an early deficit and end tonight’s game in a 4-4 tie with the Houston Astros.

Opening Day starter CC Sabathia had his last warmup of the Spring and started with struggles but settled down to put together five innings of work. On four hits, including three doubles, Sabathia gave up four runs in the 1st inning. Chris Stewart helped Sabathia out by catching two base stealers in the 1st and 5th inning. The ace of the Yankees staff walked three and struck out four as he prepares for the regular season. Closer Mariano Rivera continues to get ready for his final regular season with another perfect inning withΒ  strikeout. David Robertson, Joba Chamberlain, and Boone Logan looked good as they each had a scoreless inning of work. Vidal Nuno was the last pitcher for the Yankees in this tie game and he really had to work hard in keeping it that way. Nuno would get into a situation with runners on second and third with no outs. A force out at home, a shallow fly ball to center, and another fly ball to right would produce three outs and Nuno would escape a difficult predicament unharmed.

The Yankees offense didn’t get started until the 5th inning. Eduardo Nunez walked and stole second base. With two outs, Gardner would lace a line drive into right field that would be a run-scoring triple, the first run for the Yankees. The Yankees got going a second time in the 6th inning and it started with a harmless broken bat single that didn’t leave the infield by Robinson Cano. Kevin Youkilis would bring home Cano with a double. Recently acquired Vernon Wells would have a productive out, bringing in one run. Chris Stewart would hit a line drive into left field to bring in the third run of the inning to tie the game at four. Travis Hafner would have three hits including a double and scored once.
