Yankees Spring Training Game 7: From no hitting to no winning

New York Yankees 0 – Miami Marlins 1

The Yankees paid a visit to the Miami Marlins and started out strong but it only took a couple hits to turn the game around.

CC Sabathia took the mound for the first time this Spring and pitched well. In his two innings of work, Sabathia did not allow a hit while walking one and striking out two.

The Yankees got a double from newcomer Aaron Hicks in the first inning and Rob Refsnyder contributed a double in the second inning but these extra base hits did not amount to any runs in a fruitless game for the offense.

Luis Cessa pitched two hitless innings for the Yankees. Tyler Olson and Kirby Yates followed with a hitless inning each as four Yankees pitchers combined for six no-hit innings but without runs of support, its just a pitcher’s duel.

Didi Gregorius and Chase Headley sandwiched a pair of singles around the first out of the sixth inning as they went to bat against former Yankee David Phelps. Unfortunately, Dustin Ackley grounded into a double play to end the inning.

Nick Rumbelow aimed to continue the Spring Training no-hitter but a single following a one-out walk ended the bid. The single by Chris Johnson that followed brought home the one and only run of today’s game.

Chasen Shreve pitched a scoreless ninth inning in what was an overall good showing by Yankees pitching.

Win – Mike Dunn

Loss – Nick Rumbelow

Save – Dustin McGowan
