Yankees Spring Training Game: Unofficial results of today’s road game

New York Yankees 7 – Philadelphia Phillies 1 (4 innings – Rain/Lightning)

The road portion of today’s double delight saw the Yankees pay a visit to the Philadelphia Phillies.

Aaron Hicks got the Yankees going early with a double and scored on a single by Ronald Torreyes. Then with one out, Carlos Corporan got on base with a single and Dustin Ackley went deep against lefty Brett Oberholtzer. The three-run home run provided early run support for Masahiro Tanaka.

The Yankees kept their eyes focused on Masahiro Tanaka, looking for signs that he was capable of handling the duties of the Opening Day. Amidst rainy conditions, Tanaka struggled in the first inning. After getting the first out, he surrendered a double and a walk. Then with two outs, Darin Ruf put the Phillies on the board with one run.

Tanaka faced trouble in the third inning but outfielder Cesar Puello bailed him out with an assist, getting Will Venable out trying to score.

After making a great throw, Cesar Puello came up with one on and scored a run with a single. Third baseman Miguel Andujar followed with a two-run home run to give the Yankees seven runs through four innings.

In four innings, Masahiro Tanaka allowed one run on five hits. He struck out five and walked one.

However, due to the game only making it through four innings, it was never an official game so these contributions will not be reflected in the statistics this spring.
