Home cookin’

They say home is where the heart is. That statement couldn’t be more true for these Yankees over the past couple of weeks. New York is in a must-win situation for every game, and they have to take advantage of opportunities when they can. With a current 10-game home-stand culminating in a big four-game series with the Red Sox tonight, the Yankees can look at their recent success at the big ballpark in the Bronx for motivation.

In their last 15 games at Yankee Stadium, the Bronx Bombers are 13-2 which dates back to August 11. Their only losses came against the Angels on August 15 and Orioles this past Sunday. Over this span, the offense has averaged six runs per game while hitting .294 and slugging 18 home runs. Their pitching staff has done the job as well, throwing to a 3.67 ERA. The combination of health, power and pitching has been the recipe for success.

Ivan Nova gets the start tonight and has faired quite well on home turf. In 11 games this season, he’s 6-2 with a 2.49 ERA in 72.1 IP. He even has two complete games – most recently a complete game, three-hit shutout against the Orioles last Saturday. The Yankees are exactly where they want to be right now. Home, with their best pitcher on the mound.
