The show must go on. Despite the heartbreaking news to Yankees everywhere, learning that the legendary Mariano Rivera may miss the rest of 2012 with a torn ACL, they will still play ball.
C.C. Sabathia will take the mound tonight against the Royals in game two of a four-game series in Kansas City. In his first two starts, Sabathia was a disappointment, posting a terrible a terrible ERA and giving up lots of hits early. He’s slowly turned it around though and won his last three starts, looking especially dominant in his most recent outing against the Detroit Tigers, where he gave up only two earned runs on four hits in a strong eight innings.
The Yanks slacking sluggers may have a prime opportunity to turn it around tonight when they face Bruce Chen, who will get the start for the Royals tonight. Chen is winless so far this year and doesn’t have good career numbers against the Yanks, so they need to jump on him fast to turn around the recent fortunes of the lineup.
Currently on a three-game slide, the Bronx Bombers could really use a win tonight to provide a much-needed boost to the club, as well as lift the spirits of all Yankee supporters and Rivera well-wishers.
