Despite recording a career-high, 12 strikeouts, in his start yesterday, Ivan Nova didn’t have enough to keep the Reds off the scoreboard and the Yankees lost 6-5.
In order to take the first inter-league series of the season, the Yankees will turn to C.C. Sabathia this afternoon, in hopes of a game three victory.
Sabathia suffered his first loss of the year in his last start and will try to bounce back from that today with a win. Besides that loss, Sabathia has been heating up as of late, with a 2-1 record and 2.45 ERA in his last three starts. He also has a good track record against the Reds in his career, going 4-1 with a 2.33 ERA against the opponent. Sabathia will look for this success to continue through today’s start.
He isn’t the only one on a tear though, Reds’ ace Johnny Cueto, has also been more than effective on the mound for his club this year. He is also coming off a loss in his last start, but has been dominant besides. With a 4-1 record and unbelievable 1.89 ERA, Cueto may be too much for the Yankees troubled bats to handle.
