Yankees Game 80 Lineup: 07/03/12

Ivan Nova hasn’t been sweating too much this season with his 9-2 record and hopefully picking up his tenth win over the Rays tonight will be no sweat either.

With six games left until the All-Star break, the Yankees are enjoying a nice six-game lead over the competition in the AL East. But with all six of those upcoming games scheduled against division rivals, New York can either head into the break with a much more comfortable cushion or the gap may shorten and the race for the division get a lot tighter.

Coming off of a loss last night in the series opener with the Rays in Tampa Bay, the Yankees will attempt to bounce back with a win tonight and they have the right man on the mound to do so. All season long, Ivan Nova has been one of the most reliable pitchers in the starting rotation and the Yankees hope to get yet another quality outing from him again tonight. He’s coming off a hot month of June where he went 3-0 in five starts and will try to keep it rolling through July.

The young righty already has a good track record against the Rays, 4-0 lifetime and will attempt to continue this dominance and improve to a 10-2 record on the season.

James Shields gets the start for the Rays and hasn’t been as successful on the year or against the Bomber lineup in general. With a 5-14 career record against the Yankees, the lineup with a lot of hot bats will try and tee off on him once again tonight and continue to expand their lead in the division.
