Brendan Ryan reinstated from DL, Petit optioned

Fresh off the All-Star break, the Yankees have announced roster moves before the teams first game since before the break, as the team will activate infielder Brendan Ryan from the 15-Day DL. To make room for Ryan, infielder Gregorio Petit will be optioned to Triple-A.

Ryan, 33, has only appeared in six games this season, spending most of the year on the disabled list. The utility man is hitting .308 (4-13) with a triple. In his three seasons with the Bronx Bombers, the righty is hitting .194 (36-186) in 72 games played.

The 30-year-old Petit is in his first season with the Yankees, hitting .167 in 42 at-bats. The utility infielder was acquired from the Houston Astros on April 1st, just days before the regular season began.

With the Yankees in the middle of a post Midseason Classic playoff push, they will need the roster healthy going into the stretch run of the season. The Yankees take on the Seattle Mariners today in their first game back in action, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. EST.
