Carlos Beltran got back to New York last night and felt fine, the Yankees activated him this morning and is in the lineup batting in the five hole. To make room on the roster they had designate utility infielder Scott Sizemore for assignment, but according to Dan Barbarisi of the WSJ, his contract has an optional assignment waiver stipulation, basically means he’s being optioned back to Triple-A Scranton. Manager Joe Girardi said for the time being Beltran will be the designated hitter while slowly being eased back into right field. Beltran has been on the shelf since the first game of the Subway series back in May, but prior to that his slash line was .234/.286/.430 with five homers and 15 RBI.
