Huff activated, Francisco designated for assignment

After claiming LHP David Huff off waivers from the Indians last week, the Ben Francisco era in the Bronx is officially over, as the 31-year-old outfielder has been designated for assignment. Huff was activated before this afternoon’s game.

Francisco was signed mid-way through spring training with hopes of being part of the outfield mix in filling in for the injured Curtis Granderson. Francisco didn’t take advantage of the opportunity, putting together an abysmalΒ .114/.220/.182 batting line with one homer and one RBI in 44 at-bats.

Huff had a 4.07 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP at the Triple-A level for the Indians before he was released. The Yankees claimed him, and waived lefty Francisco Rondon in a corresponding move. Manager Joe Girardi has two options for lefties out of the pen – Boone Logan and now Huff.
