Most people are scratching their heads wondering why any team would trade for the left handed Vidal Nuno, but apparently the Arizona Diamondbacks were willing. Ken Roesnthal of Fox Sports has in fact reported that the Yankees have acquired pitcher Brandon McCarthy for Vidal Nuno. McCarthy a tall right-handed pitcher is 3-10 on the year with a 5.01 ERA in 18 starts this year. He’s logged 109.2 innings so far, 93 strikeouts 20 walks, but has given 15 home runs. McCarthy might be best remembered for getting hit the head by a line drive in 2012 when he was a member of the Oakland Athletics.

According to Buster Olney of ESPN McCarthy owed about $4.8 million for the rest of the season, plus gets a $1 million dollar assignment bonus. The DBacks will eat some of his prorated contact, but the Yankees will pay the assignment bonus.

Vidal Nuno has been under the gun this year, after few bad outings in June, everyone was a calling for the Yankees to make a move. Nuno was 2-5 with a 5.42 ERA with the Yankees this year. Sounds like fans should be excited, right? Jury is still out on that, but McCarthy is certainly a veteran pitcher that probably has more innings left in the tank this year, that’s where the upgrade is. Both teams have confirmed the deal is done, so say goodbye to Nuno.
