BRONX, N.Y. — Your New York Yankees are postseason bound! By virtue of a 7-4 San Diego Padres victory against the Seattle Mariners, the Yankees have clinched a playoff spot for the fourth consecutive season.
This marks the 56th postseason appearance in franchise history and 22nd in the past 26 years. That comes after the Yankees wrapped up their 28th consecutive winning season, dating back to 1993. It also marks the eleventh consecutive decade the team has reached the playoffs.
As of this writing, the Yankees stand at 31-22, 3.5 games behind the Tampa Bay Rays for first place in the American League East with seven games remaining on the regular-season docket. If the playoffs began today the Yankees would face the Minnesota Twins in the Wild Card first round.
