#tbt – Chapman receives a gift from The Sandman

As Aroldis Chapman is set to take over the closer role in the Bronx, we thought we’d throw it back to two years ago when the Cuban Missile received a gift from The Sandman, Mariano Rivera.

From Chapman’s instagram account (_thecubanmissile54):

Translated from Spanish, Rivera wrote “For my friend Aroldis Chapman. God bless you.” He then signed his name, and inscribed “last to wear #42.”

It’s pretty cool to look back on this post now that Chapman is a Yankee. Hopefully Rivera is down in Tampa for Spring Training this year to offer some pointers and tips on how to handle the Bronx.

Rivera, of course, finished his career as the all-time saves leader with 652. He added 42 more in the postseason, along with a minuscule .70 ERA. Chapman has 146 saves so far over his six year career, but has yet to register one in October. The Yankees hope he can achieve that milestone in pinstripes in 2016.
