Bernie Williams will officially retire

After nine years out of the league, Bernie Williams will officially be retiring on April 24th, 2015. The team announced VIA Twitter that the beloved outfielder will sign his retirement papers on Friday during a press conference at the stadium.

Bernie will also throw out the ceremonial first pitch for the game and the team will unveil a special logo for his number retirement to happen on May 24th.

Number 51 was in the Bronx before the Core Four was even a thing. He played his entire 16 year career with the Yankees from 1991 to 2006 and has always been a fan favorite; the die hards include him with the four to make up the “Core Five”. He was a five time All Star, four time World Series champ, won four Gold Gloves, a Silver Slugger award and was ALCS MVP in 1996. He remains the team’s all time postseason leader in home runs (22) and RBIs (80).
