Former Yankee Carlos Beltran plans to play next season

According to Texas Rangers beat writer TR Sullivan, Carlos Beltran said he’s playing next year and has no plans to retire.

The 39-year old DH/OF lead the Yankees in home runs (22) in 2016 even though he was traded to Texas on August 1. Overall, Beltran hit .295/.337/.513 with 29 homers and 93 RBI in 151 games between New York and Texas, easily his best season since 2013.

Beltran said that hopefully he’s back with the Rangers but that he’ll definitely play somewhere, according to Sullivan. The Bronx could be a possibility, as Beltran enjoyed his time in pinstripes, but the Yankees are expected to leave their DH spot open and flexible. The Red Sox could also be a landing spot now that full-time DH David Ortiz has retired. Regardless, expect Beltran to stay in the AL now that his defense has diminished.

Beltran owns a career slash line of .281/.354/.492 with 421 homers and 1,536 RBI over 19 seasons. He’s considered one of the best postseason players of all time, evidenced by his .323/.432/.646 line, 16 home runs and 41 RBI in 55 games.

Beltran is a borderline Hall of Fame player, and might just be looking for that ring to close out his career.
