Game 61: Offense Opens Series

Ever since Mark Teixeira was hit in the knee by a Jon Lester cutter, Jorge Posada (yes, him) has been hitting. Tonight, on Jorge Posada figurine night, the figurine’s pose was seen with 3 hits by the veteran catcher-turned-designated hitter.

Speaking of being hit by pitches, Mark Teixeira was on the receiving end of yet another pitch. However this time seemed less accidental. Following Curtis Granderson’s 19th home run of the season, the first baseman was hit by a 94 mile per hour fastball in the back. This created hot tempers in batters, pitchers, and coaches.

The bats stayed hot through it all as Curtis Granderson, Alex Rodriguez, and Brett Gardner had 2-hit games and Robinson Cano and Jorge Posada had 3-hit games each.

Ivan Nova worked 7 innings and struck out 6 as he had a solid outing to help out the staff as they piece together a bullpen.

Derek Jeter got a hit tonight to put him 9 away from 3000.
