Minors Wrap Up: AAA Yanks Home Run Derby

AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees:
Scranton and Pawtucket’s game went sorta like their major league big brothers’ teams. Yankees beat the PawSox by a couple runs, 8-5, just like the MLB matchup (6-4 NY), despite the PawSox threatening in the 9th with scoring 3 runs. The Yanks’ power hitting overwhelmed with four guys going yard: Corban Joseph (2-4), Melky Mesa (1-4), Darnell McDonald (1-4), and Ramiro Pena (2-4). Mr. Francisco Cervelli woke back up and went 2-for-2 on the night with a walk. Adam Warren was credited with the W, despite giving up 10 hits in 5 innings.

AA Trenton Thunder:
It was a lengthy 3 1/2 hour game vs. the Bowie BaySox that defeated Trenton 12-6 last night. There was a lot of O but clearly not enough: Luke Murton had 2 out-of-the-park-ers and collected 4 RBIs. Honorable mention goes to Zoilo Almonte (who was the big hitter 2 nights ago) who went 2-for-4. Pitching prospect Dellin Betances was served the loss after permitting the Bowie lineup to 7 runs lasting only 4 innings.

High-A Tampa Yankees:
The High Yanks won 5-2 over Daytona Cubs with more hot offense led by Gary Sanchez (2-4, HR) and Zach Wilson (2-4). Jeremy Bleich got the W pitching 2 innings of relief, allowing 2 hits and 1 run. Tom Kahnle collected his 5th save and 5 strikeouts on the night.

Low-A Charleston RiverDogs:
The ‘Dogs bats were barking but they failed to plate runners in scoring position (RISP 2-13) and lost 6-3 to Augusta. Dante Bichette Jr. homered, Robert Refsnyder had 2 doubles and Ben Gammel and Saxon Butler added 2 hits each. Starter Bryan Mitchell got the loss, placing him 7-11 on the year.
