Nunez to Miss Time With Injured Thumb

I had spent some time attempting to figure out why it was that Eduardo Nunez had left last night’s game against the Toledo Mud Hens. Thanks to Yankees GM Brian Cashman, I now appear to have my answer: Nunez was forced from last night’s game with a “problem at the base of the [right] thumb.” Cashman said he believes that the injury will keep Nunez out “three or four days.”

This news puts a small wrinkle in the Yankees’ initial plan, which was to return Nunez to Triple-A and allow him to develop as a full-time shortstop, as opposed to the “super utilityman” the Yankees had been using him as for most of the season.

Nunez has struggled since his demotion, going 3-for-13 with a pair of errors in three games. There is no set timetable for when he may be back in New York.
