Yankees Claim Cody Eppley

The Yankees have claimed right-hander Cody Eppley off waivers from the Texas Rangers, tweets Joel Sherman of the New York Post. Eppley will be assigned to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Cody Eppley will replace right-handed pitcher George Kontos, who was traded to the Giants yesterday, for backup catcher Chris Stewart.

Eppley was 1-1 with an 8.00 ERA in ten games for the Rangers last season and spent the rest of the time at Triple-A Round Rock. He was 4-2 with a 3.90 ERA and ten saves in 42 games. His Triple-A ERA was 0.89 as late as June 18 and was named a PCL All-Star.
